User agreement

Last updated 30 October 2026 (version 1.1). This is the same agreement you accept when installing Lyra.

IMPORTANT: LYRA COPILOT IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH, ENDORSED BY, SPONSORED BY OR CONNECTED TO FRONTIER DEVELOPMENTS PLC, THE DEVELOPER OF ELITE DANGEROUS.

Lyra is an independent, unofficial, fan-made tool. Elite Dangerous is a trademark of Frontier Developments plc.

Please read this agreement before installing Lyra. It explains what you can do with Lyra, what Lyra reads and does on your computer, what it sends over the internet, and the limits of our responsibility. By clicking "I accept", or by installing or using Lyra, you agree to it. If you don't agree, cancel the installation.

Lyra is made by Lyra Copilot, an independent developer, called "we", "us" or "our" below. "You" means the person installing or using Lyra. "Lyra" means the Lyra Copilot software for Windows, its updates and the online service it connects to.

1. The short version

  • Lyra is an unofficial AI voice copilot for Elite Dangerous on Windows, made for entertainment.
  • It only listens to your microphone while you hold your push-to-talk button. Your speech is turned into text on your own computer, and your voice is never sent anywhere.
  • It reads the game's own status and journal files and your Elite key bindings.
  • It sends the text of what you said, with a snapshot of your ship's state, to our server, which uses Google's Gemini AI to reply.
  • It speaks the reply on your computer, gives spoken warnings about your ship, and can press keys you've bound in Elite.
  • It doesn't read your other files, record your screen, or log your keystrokes.
  • Lyra is still being tested and can make mistakes. You stay in charge of your ship.

2. What Lyra reads on your computer

While it's running, Lyra reads only the following:

a) Your microphone, only while you hold your push-to-talk button. Lyra uses the microphone chosen in its settings.

b) Your push-to-talk button. Lyra continually checks the one keyboard key, mouse button or joystick button you choose as push-to-talk, so it knows when to listen. It doesn't record or log any other key, button or input.

c) Elite Dangerous game files. Lyra reads Status.json, NavRoute.json, Cargo.json and the journal files that the game writes for companion tools, normally found in:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous

They contain game information such as your ship, location, route, fuel, cargo (including whether any is stolen), credits and in-game events.

d) Elite Dangerous key bindings. Lyra reads the .binds file you choose in Lyra's settings and Elite's StartPreset file, so it knows which key does what. These are normally found in:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

Lyra doesn't change these files.

e) Whether Elite is running. Lyra checks whether EliteDangerous64.exe is running, so it knows the game is open.

f) The Elite window. Lyra finds the Elite Dangerous window so it can bring it to the front before pressing keys. It doesn't look at any other window.

Lyra does NOT read your other files or documents, your browsing data or other programs, take screenshots, record your screen, or record or log your keystrokes. It doesn't read or change the game's memory, or inject anything into the game.

3. What Lyra does on your computer

a) Turns your speech into text. Lyra uses a speech-recognition engine (faster-whisper) that runs on your computer. On first run, Lyra downloads the speech-recognition model it needs, about 150 MB.

b) Speaks its replies. Lyra reads its replies aloud using Piper, a text-to-speech engine built into Lyra that runs on your computer.

c) Presses keys. When you ask Lyra to do something in the game, it brings the Elite window to the front and sends simulated keyboard key presses to Windows, like a macro tool. It only presses keys you've bound in Elite, and only for commands you've given. Replies from our server are checked before any key is pressed. If Elite isn't running, no keys are pressed. Lyra can't press mouse or joystick buttons.

d) Opens web pages. Buttons such as Donate, Upgrade, Help and Contact open pages on lyracopilot.com in your web browser.

e) Stores its own files. Lyra keeps its files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lyra on your computer: your access code, your settings (such as volume, speech speed, microphone, window size and position, and push-to-talk button), a mission memory file, log files, the speech-recognition model and a record that you accepted this agreement.

f) Gives spoken warnings. Lyra speaks short warnings, such as low fuel, low hull, overheating, being interdicted, shields down, credits below your rebuy cost, not enough fuel for your route, being wanted, or carrying stolen or illegal cargo. These are worked out on your computer from the game files Lyra already reads, without asking the AI. To know which warnings to give, Lyra downloads a list of warning rules from our server. Nothing about you is sent with that download. Lyra may suggest actions, such as silent running, but only presses keys if you ask it to.

g) Updates. Lyra doesn't update itself. When there's a new version, we'll tell you, and you choose whether to install it.

To remove Lyra completely, uninstall it and delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lyra folder.

4. What Lyra sends over the internet

Lyra needs an internet connection. Simple commands, such as changing the volume, are handled on your computer. For everything else, Lyra sends a request to our server (api.lyracopilot.com) containing:

  • the text of what you said or typed, never a recording of your voice;
  • your access code, which identifies you;
  • the Lyra version you're using;
  • a snapshot of your ship's state, such as star system, body, ship type, hull, shields, fuel, power distribution, status, legal state, loadout, cargo and materials;
  • a short recent conversation history and the latest part of Lyra's mission log, up to about 3,000 characters.

Our server sends the text and ship snapshot to Google's Gemini AI to produce Lyra's reply and any game actions. Google's handling of this data is covered by the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms

For each request, our server records your access code, the month, whether the request worked, the AI model used, the amount of AI processing used and the response time. It doesn't store what you said. These records are used to apply usage limits and keep the service running.

Our privacy notice explains how long we keep information, who else sees it, and your rights over it:

lyracopilot.com/privacy.html

5. Your licence to use Lyra

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Lyra on computers you own or control, for your own use with Elite Dangerous, as long as you follow this agreement.

You must not:

  • share your access code, or let anyone else use it;
  • copy, sell, rent, share or publish Lyra or its installer;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile or take Lyra apart, or try to get around its usage limits or security, except where the law allows this and it can't be excluded by contract;
  • use Lyra's connection to our server for anything other than Lyra;
  • send Lyra, by voice or typing, anything racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or that encourages violence or illegal acts.

Everything you say to Lyra is passed on to Google's Gemini AI, and Google's rules forbid this kind of content. If you break them, our account with Google, and so the service for every other user, could be put at risk. If you send this kind of content, we may block your access code immediately, without warning, and without a refund as far as the law allows.

Lyra, its software, design and name belong to us. This agreement doesn't give you any ownership of them. Lyra includes open-source components, such as faster-whisper and Piper, and a Piper voice, which are provided under their own licences. Those licences apply to those components, and nothing in this agreement limits your rights under them.

6. Usage limits and access

To keep the service fair and affordable, our server limits how many requests each access code can make per minute and per month. When you reach a limit, Lyra stops replying until it resets.

Your access code is personal. We may suspend or block an access code that's shared, misused, or used in a way that could harm the service or other users.

7. Elite dangerous and Frontier

Lyra is an independent project. It isn't made, endorsed or supported by Frontier Developments plc, or connected to it. Elite Dangerous is a trademark of Frontier Developments plc.

Lyra sends ordinary keyboard input to the game. You use Lyra at your own risk, and you must follow Frontier's terms for Elite Dangerous, including not using Lyra to play while you're away from your computer. We make no promises about what Frontier's terms allow, and we aren't responsible for any action Frontier takes against your account.

8. AI replies and your ship

Lyra is for entertainment. Its replies are generated by AI and can be wrong, out of date or misunderstand you. This includes advice, game information, lore and news. Lyra can also mishear you, misread game data or press the wrong key.

You are responsible for your ship and what happens in the game. Any in-game losses, including ships, rebuy costs, cargo, credits, missions or rank, are at your own risk.

9. Testing, prices and plans

While Lyra is being tested, it's free for invited testers, and the Tester Agreement at lyracopilot.com/tester-agreement.html also applies. If the two conflict, this agreement wins. Testing is a trial: features may change, break or stop, and the test may end at any time.

During testing, the installer isn't yet signed with a code-signing certificate, so Windows SmartScreen may warn you when you run it. Only run a Lyra installer downloaded from lyracopilot.com.

After testing, Lyra is planned to become a paid subscription, possibly with a free plan. Paid plans will have their own terms, shown before you buy, including how to cancel. We'll never charge you without your agreement.

10. Feedback

hello@lyracopilot.com is for comments and feedback, and isn't a support service. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Lyra without owing you anything for them.

11. Ending this agreement

You can end this agreement at any time by uninstalling Lyra and deleting its data folder. You can also ask us to delete the records linked to your access code, as the privacy notice explains.

We may suspend or end your access if you break this agreement, if your access code is shared or misused, or if we stop providing Lyra. If we stop providing Lyra altogether, we'll try to give reasonable notice.

When this agreement ends, you must stop using Lyra and uninstall it. Sections 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 15 continue to apply.

12. No guarantees

Lyra is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises that Lyra will work without errors or interruption, be available at all times, or suit any particular purpose, and we exclude all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

13. Limits on our liability

As far as the law allows:

  • we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, game progress or goodwill;
  • our total liability to you for anything to do with Lyra is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Lyra in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.

Nothing in this agreement limits liability that can't legally be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

If you live in the UK, the European Union or elsewhere with consumer protection laws that can't be overridden by contract, you keep those rights, and nothing in this agreement takes them away.

14. Age

You must be at least 18 years old to use Lyra.

15. Law and disputes

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be handled by the state or federal courts in California, except that if you're a consumer living outside the United States, you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live, and your local consumer laws still apply.

Before going to court, please contact us first so we can try to sort out the problem informally.

16. California users

Under California Civil Code Section 1789.3, California users are entitled to the following notice. Lyra is provided by Lyra Copilot, who can be contacted at hello@lyracopilot.com. It's currently free during testing, and the prices of any paid plans will be shown before you buy. To resolve a complaint about Lyra, contact us first. You may also contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210.

17. Changes and contact

We may update this agreement as Lyra changes. If a change matters, we'll tell you in Lyra or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Lyra after that, you accept the updated agreement.

If any part of this agreement can't be enforced, the rest still applies. This agreement, the privacy notice and, while you're testing, the Tester Agreement, are the whole agreement between you and us about Lyra.
