Frequently asked questions

What we can help with: problems with Lyra itself, such as installing it, your access code, or Lyra misunderstanding you or pressing the wrong thing. We can't help with your PC, microphone, headset, Windows settings or the game itself. Lyra is built by one person, and that time goes into making Lyra better.

About Lyra

Is Lyra free?

Yes, while it's in testing. When Lyra launches there will be two plans: Free, with every feature and a monthly usage cap, and Full access, with unlimited use for 4.99 a month. See pricing for details.

What can Lyra control?

Right now, ship controls. The SRV and on-foot play are being built and will be added during testing.

What warnings does Lyra give?

Lyra speaks up on her own about things that need your attention: low or empty fuel, low hull, overheating, being interdicted, shields down, credits below your rebuy cost, not enough fuel for your route, being wanted, and carrying stolen or illegal cargo.

These warnings are worked out on your PC from the game's own files, so they're instant and don't use your monthly usage. If you're wanted or carrying illegal cargo, she may suggest silent running, but she only presses the key if you ask. If you run out of fuel, she'll suggest calling the Fuel Rats.

Can I turn the warnings off?

Not yet. A setting to choose which warnings you hear is planned.

Does Lyra work on Xbox or PlayStation?

No. Lyra reads files the game writes on a Windows PC, and those don't exist on console.

Do I need my own AI account or API key?

No. The AI runs on our server. Your access code is all you need.

Do I need VoiceAttack?

No. Lyra is designed to work straight out of the box, with no VoiceAttack or other voice software needed. If you run into any errors, email hello@lyracopilot.com.

Is Lyra made by Frontier?

No. Lyra is an independent project and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Frontier Developments.

Safety and rules

Is Lyra allowed? Could it get me banned?

Lyra doesn't change or inject anything into the game. It reads the log and status files Elite Dangerous writes for companion tools, and it presses keys you've bound, the same way many voice-control tools work.

That said, Frontier sets the rules for its game, and we can't speak for them. Stay in control of your ship, and don't use Lyra to play the game while you're away from your PC.

Lyra did something I didn't want. Who's responsible?

You are in charge of your ship, and Lyra is test software that can misunderstand you. Don't rely on it in risky moments, like combat or a tight landing, until you trust how it behaves. We can't replace lost ships, cargo or credits. Please do tell us what happened so we can fix it.

What data does Lyra send, and where?

Lyra turns your speech into text on your PC, so your voice never leaves it. It sends that text, with a snapshot of your ship from the game's own files, to our server, which uses Google's Gemini AI to produce a reply. Our server doesn't store what you say. Lyra doesn't read other files on your PC. The privacy notice and user agreement have the full details.

Problems

Lyra can't hear me.

Check these in order:

  • You're holding your push-to-talk key while you speak. If it's a joystick button, check Lyra still shows the button you chose.
  • Your microphone works in Windows. Open Windows Sound settings and watch the input level move when you talk.
  • The right microphone is selected in Lyra's settings.
  • Windows allows apps to use your microphone, under Privacy and security, then Microphone.

If your microphone doesn't work in Windows, that's outside what we can help with. Your headset maker or Windows support is the place to ask.

Lyra replies but doesn't press anything in game.

The action almost certainly has no keyboard key assigned in Elite's controls. Add a keyboard key as the second binding for that action and try again. See step 4 of the setup guide.

Lyra pressed the wrong control.

Check that the key Lyra pressed isn't also bound to a different action in Elite. Shared keys are the most common cause. If the bindings look right, report it, along with what you said and what happened.

Windows warns me the installer isn't safe.

Test builds aren't signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognise them. If you downloaded the installer from lyracopilot.com, choose More info, then Run anyway. Never run a Lyra installer from anywhere else.

My access code doesn't work.

Copy it again from your invite email and make sure there are no spaces at the start or end. If it still fails, or Lyra says your access code is suspended, email hello@lyracopilot.com.

Testing

How do I report a bug?

Use the contact form and choose Bug report. Tell us what you said, what you expected, and what Lyra did, and include the time it happened, which helps us find it in the logs.

Can I share Lyra with a friend?

Please don't share the installer, the tester password or your access code. Your friend can request their own invite.
